Possible Locations

For our music video we will use a wide variety of locations, we will do this as the music track that we are using is quite long (5 minutes).

Our main locations will be a beach, Stage and a multi-storey car park.

                                                    Winterton Beach

We chose to use a beach as it reflected the lyrics of the song and we wanted a literal interpretation for our video. Winterton would be a good beach to use as it has fairly high dunes which will allow us to get silhouette shots over the beach itself and it can make the actors seem higher than they actually are which we needed for a scene where the actors would be standing on a cliff/hill top.

 St Giles Car Park

We needed a high rooftop that we could have easy access to without getting permission. This would be for the 'jump' scene where the male actor jumps from the rooftop and enters the next stage of the music video.

This scene would be quite complicated to film as we needed to make it seem like they jump from the roof without actually making the actor jump, it would probably be made form several shots to create the illusion of a rooftop jump.

Costume Planning

For the male characters costume we have taken inspiration from the genre of the soundtrack and the cover of the song, the cover shows a man in what looks like western style clothes.

This allows us to create links to the original visuals that the band had created.

For the male character we decided that he should be wearing a long brown coat, as this is what we associated with folk music and the western character from the cover. We also have decided that he will be wearing a hat similar to that on the cover, this should allow us to get a few more interesting shots of the main character whilst keeping mystery in the video.

The female character will be wearing standard clothes of the present day. This is because we wanted the two main characters to be the opposite of each other for visual contrast.

Chosen track, back up track and early video plans

The reason we choose this track is because it has a very good use of instruments, also the main female singer has a very strong voice which you can hear easily and clearly over the instruments, another benefit of this song is we though of a very good storyline to go along with the track which we could mix with shots of the band if they are able to make it. As the story of the is around a lone wander who is seeking a place to die peacefully and quietly, we decided to embrace this into our music video and have a lone wander travelling around and find his place of death, at the end of the music video we want to have a inter textual reference to life on Mars where the main character does not like the time he is in and decided to commit suicide by jumping off a parking lot.

the reason we choose this song as our back up is because it has similarities to the first track as it has good instrumental sections but also has a very powerful female voice which is very easy to hear and understand over the top.
