Raw unedited footage from our band scene shoot

Below is some raw unedited footage which I shoot on my Samsung galaxy note 2 smartphone. We will not be using this footage during our edit because of the low quality of the footage and also other members of the filming crew can be seen in the footage so it does not look professional. Another issue with the footage is as it was shoot from a handheld Smartphone it is rather shaky in some points

Equipment being used during shoots

During the shoots we are using a vast array of equipment to keep in communication with each other, film and to aid us in capturing various types of shoots. To help us keep in contact with each other we have a coupe of different ways of communication on shoots and off shoots, on shoots we are using smart phones (Mine: Samsung galaxy note 2, Alex: Apple i phone 5, Sorrel: Samsung galaxy s3, Josh: Samsung galaxy Ace Y) Using smart-phones we can call or text other members in the group if necessary for example if someone is late or like on our Winterton we used smart phones to talk to each other so we discuss what the shot looked liked from multiple angles and distances to make it look the best we can. Outside of the shoot I created a Face book group and invited all members in our filming group so we can communicate with each other at home or anywhere else that we have an internet connection, through this we can organise shooting times, locations etc. Also with the face book group the messages are permanently there so unlike a phone call we can go back and review what was posted, also as a sharing site we can post photo's taken on set or rough edits tat we have produced which others can look at and add comments on what can be improved and what they liked about them. To get the best quality shots we decided to use Josh’s Nikon D3200 DSLR Camera along with a Nikon 18-55 MM Lens, we decided to use this combination of camera and lens because it produces high quality images and video and can reach a long distance due to the long range lens attached to the front, this along with the tripod we are using will come together to produce a very clear and stable image so it is easy for the viewer to see and understand what is going on. Josh and Stuart from a different media group came together and produced a track which runs along a couple of plastic poles, we decided to use this along with our camera and tripod to open up the variety of shots we can produce, the track allows us to film stable tracking shots which can either be face on or side on, these shots can be filmed steadily due to the balance which is offered by the track.

Winterton Shoot (Location shots and shoots during filming)

We choose Winterton as our beach scene as it is symbolic to the songs title 'Across the sea'. Winterton also has a wide open beach with sand dunes located at the rear of the beach, this element of the beach allows us to have multiple twists, we could use the dunes symbols as both of our characters have had problems in their lives and the dunes could represent this by having the actors walk through, reaching the open beach along with sea being the end of there journey. During this shoot we were filming the dune scenes and the open beach scenes, however we were also suppose to be filming the scenes where our lead female actor enters the sea with stones in her pockets and having our second male actor running in after her to save her, we did not manage to get this done done to the weather becoming too cold, this along with two of the cast suffering from colds we decided to do this at a later date when we also have more time available to perfect the scene.

Possible Locations

For our music video we will use a wide variety of locations, we will do this as the music track that we are using is quite long (5 minutes).

Our main locations will be a beach, Stage and a multi-storey car park.

Pictures of locations:
                                                    Winterton Beach
We chose to use a beach as it reflected the lyrics of the song and we wanted a literal interpretation for our video. Winterton would be a good beach to use as it has fairly high dunes which will allow us to get silhouette shots over the beach itself and it can make the actors seem higher than they actually are which we needed for a scene where the actors would be standing on a cliff/hill top.
 St Giles Car Park
We needed a high rooftop that we could have easy access to without getting permission. This would be for the 'jump' scene where the male actor jumps from the rooftop and enters the next stage of the music video.
This scene would be quite complicated to film as we needed to make it seem like they jump from the roof without actually making the actor jump, it would probably be made form several shots to create the illusion of a rooftop jump.

Costume Planning

For the male characters costume we have taken inspiration from the genre of the soundtrack and the cover of the song, the cover shows a man in what looks like western style clothes.

Cover of "Across The Sea"
This allows us to create links to the original visuals that the band had created.
For the male character we decided that he should be wearing a long brown coat, as this is what we associated with folk music and the western character from the cover. We also have decided that he will be wearing a hat similar to that on the cover, this should allow us to get a few more interesting shots of the main character whilst keeping mystery in the video.
The female character will be wearing standard clothes of the present day. This is because we wanted the two main characters to be the opposite of each other for visual contrast.

Chosen track, back up track and early video plans

The reason we choose this track is because it has a very good use of instruments, also the main female singer has a very strong voice which you can hear easily and clearly over the instruments, another benefit of this song is we though of a very good storyline to go along with the track which we could mix with shots of the band if they are able to make it. As the story of the is around a lone wander who is seeking a place to die peacefully and quietly, we decided to embrace this into our music video and have a lone wander travelling around and find his place of death, at the end of the music video we want to have a inter textual reference to life on Mars where the main character does not like the time he is in and decided to commit suicide by jumping off a parking lot.
Lyrics to The Chief of Seattle - Across the sea
See it
Did you see it when you ran from the south to …
Hear it
Did you hear it when you hold that…
Cross the sea will find you there

Taken
To a world that's blessed with care
Hidden
Far away in a canyon stare
Cross the sea will find you there

Fell in love with the cold fresh air
Walked until the sky grew bear
Traveled our way to find you were already free
Didn't take much convincing to get you back across the sea
Traveled our way to find you were already free
Didn't take much convincing to get you back across the sea

Standing'
On a mountain where the white just grows
Seeing
No horizon just clouds and snow
Cross the sea will find you there

Fall in love with the cold fresh air
Walked until the sky grew bear
Traveled our way to find you were already free
Didn't take much convincing to get you back across the sea
Traveled our way to find you were already free
Didn't take much convincing to get you back across the sea

Woooooh ooh oooh
oooh oh oh oh
oooh oh oh ooh
oooh oh oh oh

Traveled our way to find you were already free
Didn't take much convincing to get you back across the sea
Travelled our way to find you were already free

Didn't take much convincing to get you back across the sea
Are Back up song is called Here by The Room
the reason we choose this song as our back up is because it has similarities to the first track as it has good instrumental sections but also has a very powerful female voice which is very easy to hear and understand over the top.

                                                                              Lyrics
They say if you're still breathing
after a week of him leaving
the chances are you will move on
but they say if you still see him
in your sleep, whilst your dreaming
the chances are we may be wrong
if your thinking you got it wrong
don't wait because i may still not be here
if your thinking of turning us around
don't wait because i may not be here
let it sink in and tell me what you have found
but don't wait because i may not be here
then you said it then you did it and you told me that i would get it
I don't think I'm going to get it
I don't think my brain will let it
I just need this pain away
I just hate the break of day
I just need to tell you something
This is dead in the ground
If there is a new love that you've found
Call the captain I am down
too much love lust has been found
you are engraved in me now
and I've been trying to figure how
how will I still hear
what if I
what if I am always here
are you still breathing
do you still see me when your sleeping
don't wait because I may not be here
